The popular music platform YouTube Music is preparing to make one of its users’ favorite features a paid option. According to reports, the free version of the platform is experiencing a limitation on viewing lyrics. This restriction appears likely to push users towards a YouTube Premium subscription.

Unlimited access to lyrics on YouTube Music was one of the platform’s most popular features. However, a screenshot shared by a Reddit user suggests this is about to change. The app issues a warning to users after viewing a certain number of lyrics, recommending they upgrade to YouTube Premium for unlimited access.

The screenshot indicates that the user is only allowed to view three lyrics. Currently, this limitation is being tested with only a select few users. However, if this restriction is rolled out to all users, it will create a significant disadvantage for free YouTube Music users.

This move has been met with criticism from YouTube Music users. In the comments on Reddit, users liken this to the platform’s unskippable ads. Some users said they could use search engines to access lyrics, while others noted that YouTube Music’s lyrics feature was already malfunctioning.

If this restriction becomes permanent, users who want to view unlimited lyrics on YouTube Music will need to subscribe to YouTube Premium for 79.99 TL per month. This subscription offers additional benefits such as ad-free video and music streaming, downloading, and offline playback.
