German-based automotive giant BMW is radically changing the remote update experience in its vehicles featuring the new Neue Klasse architecture. The new generation of BMW cars based on the Neue Klasse will receive regular remote updates, providing users with a better experience than ever before.
Update support for the Neue Klasse series is increasing
Christoph Grote, BMW’s Senior Vice President of Electronics and Software, made a statement on the matter. Grote stated that while competitors typically only update the multimedia system, BMW can update the entire vehicle with the Neue Klasse.

Updatable components include control units, the drive system, charging, driver assistance systems, and all other vehicle components. Grote emphasized that this is a critical detail for the software-defined vehicle concept.
The software size in the new generation of vehicles is approximately four times that of current BMW vehicles. Despite this, BMW states that a future update will take approximately 20 minutes to complete for all vehicles on sale. The company plans to release at least three vehicle updates annually to offer customers new features through these updates.
The new, all-electric BMW iX3 stands out as the first member of the Neue Klasse era. The vehicle features LED-illuminated, next-generation BMW kidneys at the front, large LED taillights, and a futuristic dashboard. The dashboard combines a “Panoramic iDrive” information display positioned under the glass with a 17.9-inch central touchscreen.
