The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has revealed that Apple is working on a new, updated version of its mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro. Documents made public today point to a new product Apple describes as a “head-mounted device,” listed with model number A3416. An image attached to the filings confirms that the device in question is an updated version of the existing Vision Pro.
Documents filed with the FCC generally contain technical details related to the product’s transmission tests, SAR reports, and Wi-Fi tests. Therefore, detailed information about the device’s full specifications is lacking. However, the existence of the documents suggests that Apple is very close to the launch of the next-generation Vision Pro.

Rumors circulating suggest that Apple plans to significantly beef up the hardware in the new model. The company will reportedly replace the current M2 chip with a faster and more efficient M5 chip. No major design updates are expected. Updates will focus more on performance improvements. The new Vision Pro is expected to be announced by the end of the year, perhaps in October. Pricing is not yet clear.
The FCC filings also contain information about Apple’s request for confidentiality. Despite this, the documents’ publication generated widespread interest in the tech press. Furthermore, the FCC’s Apple filings also revealed clues not only about the Vision Pro but also about future MacBook Pro and iPad Pro models.
Apple’s mixed reality strategy isn’t limited to the Vision Pro. The company is also known to be working on a lighter, more affordable version. This model, dubbed the “Vision Air,” will likely take at least a few years to reach the market. The Vision Air is expected to reach users no earlier than 2027.
