Performance and driving pleasure are now at the forefront of the electric car world. Chinese Leapmotor has made an ambitious entry into this segment, unveiling its new electric hot hatch, the B05 Ultra (known as the Lafa 5 Ultra in China). The vehicle’s key distinguishing feature is its European chassis tuning, developed in collaboration with Stellantis engineers.

A more aggressive version of the standard B05, the Ultra model stands out with its functional aerodynamic package (front splitter and rear spoiler) and 19-inch wheels. The chassis, tuned with the input of Stellantis engineers, achieves a near-50:50 weight distribution, crucial for sharp cornering performance. This partnership aims to prove that Chinese electric vehicles can be not only affordable but also enjoyable to drive. The vehicle is built on Leapmotor’s LEAP 3.5 platform.

Standard European B05 models are expected to offer 177 hp and 215 hp, respectively, with a range of 400-500 km. But the B05 Ultra is on a completely different level. Rumors suggest it will deliver between 320 and 400 horsepower with its dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup. These figures will put it squarely in competition with rivals like the Volkswagen ID.3 GTX and MG4 XPower.
Leapmotor hasn’t yet released interior details for the B05 Ultra, but it has confirmed a focus on driver-focused ergonomics and suede-like materials to create a sporty atmosphere. Targeting a younger demographic (70% of early orders in China are under 35), the Ultra is scheduled for launch in the first half of 2026.
While standard B05 models are expected to be priced below €30,000 in Europe, the Ultra is expected to be a competitive and affordable option compared to its European rivals. Leapmotor’s availability of powerful EVs like the 585-horsepower C10 AWD model raises the B05 Ultra’s performance expectations.
