Following the release of the AirPods Pro 3 in September 2025, Apple appears to have already begun work on the next version. According to Bloomberg writer Mark Gurman, a reliable source in the tech world, the next-generation AirPods Pro, currently under development, may feature integrated cameras. This claim signals a revolutionary change in the company’s wireless headphone lineup.
Gesture control begins in the AirPods Pro
These cameras are not expected to be used for standard photo-taking. This claim, which aligns with a June 2024 prediction by another prominent industry analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, suggests that the earbuds will incorporate infrared cameras. This technology will have a similar structure to the sensors used in the Face ID system on iPhone models. Its primary purpose is to allow users to control the earbuds’ functions with hand gestures in the air. For example, a simple hand gesture can be used to skip to the next song or adjust the volume.

The camera is not expected to be the only innovation in the new AirPods Pro. According to the report, Apple will also include the H3 audio chip in the new model. This next-generation processor aims to significantly reduce latency in audio transmission and further improve overall sound quality. This will allow users to experience a more synchronized and smoother audio experience, especially when playing games or watching movies.
Apple is expected to release its new AirPods Pro model with a camera around 2026. However, the product’s naming is not yet clear. It remains unclear whether the device will be called the AirPods Pro 4 or an improved version of the current model. Mark Gurman states that Apple is also working on the AirPods 5, the fifth generation of the standard AirPods line, and that this model will likely be released in 2026.
The addition of a camera and gesture control features to the earbuds raises some questions in the tech world. Some experts question the necessity of such a control method when the phone is already in our hands. However, Apple appears determined to take such innovative steps to maintain its leadership in the headphone market and revive its sales, which have declined since the pandemic.
