A new AI app called Endless Summer, designed to create fake vacation photos, has been released. Developed by a Meta employee, the app can transform a simple selfie into a completely different vacation scene.

How are fake vacation photos created with Endless Summer?

Laurent Del Rey, a member of Meta’s Super Intelligence lab, developed this app as a side project. Del Rey explained that he designed the app “to help you imagine the blissful life you deserve when you’re feeling burnt out.”

The app takes selfies uploaded by users and then re-arranges them using generative AI to make them appear to be taken in different vacation locations.

Endless Summer only allows for three different photos to be created for free. Users must use in-app purchases to purchase more. There are concerns that this could increase the trend of “faking wealth” on social media.

Experts also express concern that such apps can cause serious psychological problems, especially in young people.
