South Korean technology giant Samsung Electronics garnered attention with its financial performance in the third quarter. The company’s operating profit increased by 160 percent compared to the previous quarter, more than doubling its growth, driven primarily by record demand from its AI servers. Samsung formalized this strong recovery with its financial results released on Thursday.
Samsung’s revenues are in the news
The company’s third-quarter revenue reached 86.1 trillion won, equivalent to approximately $60.5 billion. Operating profit exceeded market expectations at 12.2 trillion won ($8.54 billion). On an annual basis, revenue increased by 8.85 percent and operating profit by 32.9 percent. This marks Samsung’s strong recovery after a slump in the chip sector in the second quarter.

Compared to the June quarter, the company’s operating profit increased by 160 percent and revenue by 15.5 percent. Samsung Electronics, South Korea’s largest corporation, maintains its leadership in key areas such as memory chips, semiconductor manufacturing services, and smartphones.
Samsung’s recovery is largely driven by its semiconductor division, operating under the name “Device Solutions.” The chip division increased its sales by 19 percent compared to the June quarter. The memory division achieved its highest quarterly sales in history during this period. Chip revenue increased by 13 percent year-over-year to 33.1 trillion won ($23.18 billion).
Operating profit increased by 81 percent to 7 trillion won ($4.9 billion). The company attributes this significant growth to strong demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips for artificial intelligence.
According to a report by market research firm Counterpoint Research, Samsung regained its leadership in the memory market in the third quarter. The company will reportedly shift its focus to mass production of its next-generation HBM4 chips for the remainder of the year and into 2026. Meanwhile, Samsung’s Mobile Experience and Networking (MX) division also saw both sales and profit growth in the third quarter.
The mobile division reported operating profit of 3.6 trillion won ($2.5 billion), representing approximately 28 percent growth compared to the previous year. This growth was driven by the strong sales performance of flagship models like the Galaxy Z Fold7.
