Tesla has quietly begun rolling out MultiPass, a new feature that aims to revolutionize the charging experience, across Europe. Thanks to this innovation, Tesla owners can now pay for charging at third-party charging stations directly through their Tesla accounts, eliminating the need for a separate app, card, or registration.
What is Tesla MultiPass and How Does It Work?
Launched in the Netherlands earlier this year, the feature is now rolling out to additional countries like Germany and France, according to Tesla’s support page. This expansion provides strong support for Tesla’s goal of making the charging experience as seamless as possible, not just at Superchargers but across its entire compatible public charging network.

Tesla describes MultiPass as a “seamless charging option” that allows drivers to find and charge at third-party charging stations using their existing Tesla Accounts. By partnering with a network aggregator, Tesla now provides access to over 1,000 charging networks and thousands of stations across Europe.
In practice, MultiPass’s primary goal is to bring the charging experience at third-party stations as close to a Tesla Supercharger experience as possible. Drivers can initiate the process by simply swiping their Tesla keycard at a supported charger or by selecting the charging point in the Tesla app. The cost of the charging session is automatically billed to their existing Tesla account.
The same payment method used for Supercharger charging is used, and all sessions appear in a single location within the Tesla app’s charging history, combined with their Supercharger activity. MultiPass aims to minimize the number of registrations and third-party accounts needed for charging outside Tesla’s network, effectively transforming the Tesla keycard into a universal charging credential.
- To start using MultiPass, Tesla owners simply activate it through the Tesla app:
- Open the Tesla app and check for the MultiPass invitation in the “Messages” section.
- Tap More Info → Next.
Follow the on-screen steps to activate your keycard via NFC. Once activated, charging sessions can be initiated in two ways:
- Take your keycard directly to a supported third-party charger.
- Or, initiate the charging session by selecting the remote charging point in the Tesla app.
Your charging session will instantly appear in the app with cost and duration details, just like a Supercharger session.
