Chinese tech giant Baidu made a bold claim at its Baidu World conference. The company claims that its new major language model, Baidu Ernie 4.0, unveiled by CEO Robin Li, surpasses even OpenAI’s yet-to-be-released GPT-5. Ernie 4.0 has intensified global AI competition by claiming to outperform its competitors in four key capabilities.

Baidu CEO Robin Li stated that the new model has made significant improvements, particularly in creativity, logic, memory, and comprehension. The company emphasizes that these four core capabilities put Ernie 4.0 ahead of its competitors. It also aims to establish a strong leadership position against local rivals in China, such as Alibaba (Tongyi Qianwen) and Tencent.

Ernie 4.0 stands out with its ability to memorize long-term conversations without losing context. The model can memorize conversations spanning tens of thousands of words. It can also accurately understand and summarize complex and long texts or conversations. This allows it to provide accurate answers to users’ questions, even on long articles. This will make it a great tool for academic and professional use.
Robin Li performed a remarkable demo at the launch, demonstrating the practical power of Ernie 4.0. With just a text-based command, Li enabled the model to create a complete presentation file and promotional poster for an AI-powered cafe service. This demonstrates that the model is capable of creating versatile and professional content beyond being a simple chatbot. Baidu has stated that it will soon release the Baidu Ernie 4.0 AI model to the general public, but the exact date has not yet been announced.
