The Hunger Games series, adapted from the book series of the same name, concluded the main story with its fourth film, released in 2015. However, the series continues its journey into cinema with prequel films that explore the past.
New Hunger Games film trailer released
Lionsgate announced that it will release another Hunger Games film next year, after releasing the first prequel film, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, in 2023.
This new film, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, focuses on the 50th Hunger Games, in which Haymitch Abernathy, known from the original series, participated as a teenager.
The film is set twenty-four years before the events of the original series and follows young Haymitch Abernathy, who is chosen for the competition, caught in the middle of a deadly game. The film will feature younger versions of many characters from the original series.
The film will be released on November 20, 2026, and Lionsgate has already begun promotional efforts. The company released the first trailer for the film today. Francis Lawrence, who also helmed the original series, is directing Sunrise on the Reaping.
The film’s cast includes Joseph Zada, McKenna Grace, Whitney Peak, Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Ben Wang, Elle Fanning, Kieran Culkin, Lili Taylor, Billy Porter, Glenn Close, and Ralph Fiennes.
