Google’s next-generation AI assistant, Gemini, has finally begun integrating with the Android Auto platform. While this integration will unfortunately take several months to complete, once it reaches users, it will replace the in-car Google Assistant. For this change to occur, users must first replace Google Assistant on their phones with Gemini.
Intelligent Features That Redefine the Driving Experience
Google states that Android Auto is available in over 250 million vehicles on the road today. The company emphasizes that Gemini “will continue to offer trusted hands-free features, but will go far beyond as a truly conversational AI assistant.” Drivers will now be able to converse with Gemini as naturally as they would with a friend, conduct two-way conversations, and perform complex tasks.
Gemini comes with a number of new capabilities that make driving both safe and efficient:
- Route Planning: It can help you add stops to your route during your trip.
- Business Insights: Extracts key information from reviews about businesses you’re interested in and helps you make the right choice by answering basic questions.
- Communication Enhancements: Adds emojis to messages and instantly translates your messages in over 40 languages.
- Email Management: Allows you to find hidden information in your emails and even summarizes unread emails.
- Road Trip Entertainment: Need a playlist for a road trip? Simply define your desired genre and Gemini will create a playlist just for you.
- Idea Generation: Get information about your destination, brainstorm gift ideas, or help with personal preparations like presentation rehearsals.
This integration takes hands-free interaction for Android Auto users to a much more natural and productive level, helping them stay focused while driving. Global rollout will be rolling out in 45 languages.
