Microsoft has recently been transforming Notepad, Windows’ long-standing minimalist text editor, into a more advanced and functional tool. The software giant has significantly expanded Notepad’s capabilities by adding table support to the latest Insider preview builds of Windows 11.
Notepad Offers Table Support
Users can now easily create tables within Notepad. Simply click the newly appearing “Table” icon in the toolbar or use Markdown code directly. Once a table is added, users can add or remove new rows and columns from existing tables using the context menu or toolbar options.

With this update, Microsoft not only adds table support but also enhances Notepad’s AI functionality. Text-based AI commands like “Write,” “Rewrite,” and “Summarize” in the app now work in a streamed format.
Thanks to this update, when users issue an AI command, the response appears as a preview, providing instant feedback without having to wait for the response to complete.
Notepad version 11.2510.6.0, which includes table support and enhanced AI features, is currently available to users in the Dev and Canary channels of the Windows Insider program.
This update is expected to reach other Insider channels in the next few weeks. Afterward, the feature will be generally available to all Windows 11 users. These moves transform Notepad from a simple text file viewer into a more capable productivity tool.
