Xiaomi EV, the automotive arm of tech giant Xiaomi, has unveiled a major upgrade to its driver assistance system. This new feature, called Xiaomi HAD (Hyper Autonomous Driving) Advanced Edition, utilizes the latest artificial intelligence technologies to make electric vehicle driving safer and smoother. The system now includes “world model” capabilities and reinforcement learning. This represents a giant leap forward, building on the original version’s foundation of 10 million video clips of real human driving.
Mimicking Human Behavior with a “World Model”
A “world model” refers to a simulation where the vehicle’s computer can predict what will happen next, just like an experienced human driver. While most mainstream Chinese EV manufacturers aim for “end-to-end” assisted driving technology, Xiaomi is pushing the boundaries of closely mimicking human behavior behind the wheel using these models.
This breakthrough is based on a massive training dataset, including 10 million video clips of how drivers behave in different traffic situations, enabling the AI model to learn superior driving skills. Xiaomi EV highlights its recent achievements to demonstrate its technological prowess. It won the championship at the 2025 ICCV professional competition with the ViSE algorithm it developed for its world model, and its Genesis generative model paper was accepted by NeurIPS, one of the top conferences in the field of artificial intelligence.
These technological upgrades directly translate to greater safety on the road. The Xiaomi HAD Advanced Edition introduces two major improvements to the vehicle’s safety toolbox:
AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) Upgrade: This improves performance by allowing the vehicle to better apply the brakes in situations where the likelihood of a collision is high.
AES (Automatic Emergency Steering) Feature: This means that when braking alone is insufficient, the vehicle can now automatically steer to avoid a potential accident.
Xiaomi EV plans to invest more than RMB 7 billion (approximately €1 billion) in AI research and development in 2025 alone. An investment of this scale requires a dedicated team. Currently, the intelligent driving unit has over 1,800 members. The fact that 108 of these individuals hold doctoral degrees demonstrates the company’s commitment to maintaining a deep team of experts.
The user adoption rate for driver assistance features in Xiaomi electric vehicles is quite high: over 90 percent of Xiaomi EV owners actively use these features. The company reports that these features have already helped prevent an estimated 457,000 potential collisions. This is a significant figure demonstrating the system’s real-world value.
The original HAD feature, based on end-to-end technology, was first rolled out to eligible vehicles in late February of this year. By the end of July, it had received its first major upgrade, significantly enhancing its capabilities. Free access to HAD continues to be a key selling point for all of the brand’s EVs.
