The entertainment industry is being reshuffled, and the world of cinema is in turmoil. One of Hollywood’s most established studios and the digital broadcasting giant have joined forces. The long-awaited official announcement regarding the Netflix acquisition of Warner Bros. has finally arrived, and the massive deal has been signed.
A Huge $82 Billion Signing
According to an announcement made by the two companies on December 5, 2025, Netflix has acquired the film and series empire of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD). This deal, valued at approximately $82.7 billion, has become one of the largest acquisitions in the industry’s history.
The deal package is quite extensive: Warner Bros. film and TV studios, the HBO channel, and the digital platform HBO Max are now under Netflix’s control. However, the “Global Networks” unit, which includes CNN and sports channels, was excluded from this sale and will continue as a separate company.
With this acquisition, Netflix has acquired a massive content library that will set it apart from its competitors. In addition to the platform’s current hits, Squid Game and Stranger Things, The Harry Potter series, the Game of Thrones universe, Friends, and DC characters (Batman, Superman) are being added. This means everything from superheroes to fantasy universes is available in a single subscription.
Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos said, “We are thrilled to bring this unparalleled library, spanning from Casablanca to Harry Potter, to our viewers.” Obtaining regulatory approvals and integrating the companies will take approximately 12 to 18 months. After this period, nothing in digital streaming will be the same.
