The gaming world is redrawing the boundaries for speed enthusiasts. In today’s world, where even milliseconds are crucial in competitive gaming, hardware manufacturers are in a fierce race to increase refresh rates. The latest addition to this race is the Evnia 27M2N5500XD, launched as a 1000Hz gaming monitor. This model, notable for its high speed, offers some resolution compromises along with its performance.

What are the technical specifications of the 1000Hz gaming monitor?

The new monitor, codenamed 27M2N5500XD, introduced under the Evnia brand, offers a standard 27-inch screen with a 1440p resolution and a 500Hz refresh rate. While these figures are superior to many high-end monitors on the market, the device’s true standout feature emerges when the resolution is lowered. When users lower the resolution to 720p, the monitor can reach a full 1000Hz refresh rate.

This model, featuring IPS panel technology, has a 1ms response time. While promising incredible smoothness on paper, it’s important to note that a 720p resolution on a 27-inch panel, as per 2025 standards, will result in a significant drop in image quality. Therefore, the model appeals to a very narrow audience focused solely on speed and competitive advantage rather than image quality.

Evnia isn’t alone in the high refresh rate race. ViewSonic recently introduced a new Tandem OLED monitor with a 720Hz refresh rate with the XG273F. This competitor, using LG’s fourth-generation Tandem OLED panel, also seen in the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W, combines both speed and the color accuracy offered by OLED technology.

ViewSonic’s aforementioned model offers 540Hz at 1440p resolution and 720Hz at 720p resolution, and stands out with its incredible 0.02ms response time. While Evnia’s 1000Hz model pushes the limits of the IPS panel and achieves a higher numerical value, it’s questionable how much market share it will capture given the contrast and response time advantages offered by its OLED competitors.
