The Nothing OS 4 update had excited users with its new Android 16-based features, but the rollout hit an unexpected snag. Due to technical issues, Nothing decided to temporarily suspend the update.
Why was the Nothing OS 4 update pulled?
Nothing took its time preparing its Android 16-based update. The Nothing OS 4 update reached stable release on November 21st for the Nothing Phone 3 and around November 28th for older models. However, despite this cautious approach, users began reporting various bugs in the new version. Reports suggest the company has completely halted rollouts to address the issues.

The first signs that the update had been paused emerged on December 1st, when some users noticed that the update notification had disappeared from their devices. Shortly thereafter, a user on the social media platform Reddit shared an email purportedly received from the Nothing support team. The email stated that the update was paused while they worked on an “urgent fix.”
According to the information released, the Nothing support team sent a message to users stating: “We have received feedback from the relevant team and regret to inform you that we have temporarily paused and removed the current 4.0 distribution. We are currently working on an urgent fix.” The company added that they are working to release a stable version as soon as possible.
The email doesn’t specify the specific bug affecting the stable version of the Nothing OS 4 update. However, the company states that the patched version will be released to users immediately after it passes internal testing. Users who have already installed the update are also expected to receive this fixed version. Those who haven’t yet upgraded to Android 16 will receive a notification when the update is released again.
