Legendary figure behind the Yakuza (Like a Dragon) series, Toshihiro Nagoshi, has finally delivered the first fruit of his studio after leaving SEGA. Introduced at The Game Awards 2025, Gang of Dragon is Nagoshi Studio’s first major project developed in partnership with NetEase. The game’s atmosphere promises to make Yakuza fans feel right at home.
Gang of Dragon features a familiar face: Ma Dong-seok
The biggest surprise of the action-adventure game is its lead actor. Ma Dong-seok (Don Lee), the famous South Korean actor known for his roles in Train to Busan, Marvel’s Eternals, and most recently Death Stranding 2, brings to life the game’s main character, Shin Ji-seong. This character is a high-ranking member of a Korean crime syndicate and will be at the center of the story.
The game takes place in Tokyo’s famous nightlife district, Kabukicho (Shinjuku). This atmosphere, familiar from the Yakuza series, is combined with Nagoshi’s signature cinematic storytelling and “human drama.” Nagoshi, keeping his promise from 2022 not to “only make mobile games,” aims to deliver a deep, console-quality story.
In a press release, Toshihiro Nagoshi stated, “This project portrays the lives of outlaws living on the real streets of Kabukicho with unwavering honesty.” While the game is currently “deep in development,” no release date has been given. Although only PC is currently confirmed, a console release is considered highly likely.
