While the countdown continues for Apple’s long-awaited foldable phone, the iPhone Fold, the latest leaked details have sent shockwaves through the tech world. Expected to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold, the device is rumored to be pricey, and the claim that Apple will abandon its most trusted feature, Face ID, has dropped like a bombshell.
Will the $2,399 phone lack Face ID?
According to leaked reports, Apple plans to set a very high price tag of $2,399 for its first foldable phone. However, despite this “ultra-premium” price, it is stated that the device will not include Face ID technology. Why?

According to reliable leaks from Weibo and reports from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple wants to keep the device as thin as possible. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg stated that the device will be “as thin as two iPhone Airs placed side-by-side,” and there isn’t enough space to accommodate the TrueDepth camera system. Therefore, Apple is completely removing the notch and dynamic candidate, returning to the side-mounted Touch ID sensor seen in iPad Air models.
Screen and Camera Details Becoming Clearer
According to information from the prototype stage, the device’s technical specifications are taking shape as follows:
- Inner Screen: 7.58-inch, notchless and punch-hole design.
- Outer Screen: 5.25-inch cover screen.
- Camera: 48MP dual-sensor setup, one under-display camera and one punch-hole camera.
- Hinge: Reinforced with liquid metal and amorphous metal-glass composite material, wrinkle-free structure.
Apple’s obsession with “perfection” comes into play, especially on the hinge side. While Samsung is known to be working on a foldable device of similar dimensions, Apple’s decision to forgo Face ID and focus on thinness seems likely to create controversy.
So, would paying $2,399 for a fingerprint reader instead of Face ID bother you? Or is thinness more important? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
