Tencent’s game Light of Motiram, described as a Tencent Horizon clone, has been canceled following a legal battle with Sony. The game drew significant criticism due to its blatant similarities to Horizon: Zero Dawn and was eventually quietly removed from all digital stores.
Why Did the Tencent Horizon Clone Cause Such a Stir?
When Light of Motiram was first announced, it caused a major stir in the gaming world. This was because the game’s trailer was almost identical to Sony’s award-winning title Horizon: Zero Dawn. The character designs, robotic creatures, and overall art style resembled a blatant copy rather than an original production. This was harshly criticized by players and industry professionals.
However, the harshest reaction, as expected, came from Sony. The company described Light of Motiram as a “vulgar copy” of the Horizon universe and initiated legal action against Tencent for infringement of intellectual property rights.
After months of legal battles, Sony and Tencent have reportedly reached an out-of-court settlement. While details of the agreement haven’t been publicly released, the consequences are clear. Immediately following the settlement, Light of Motiram was removed from all platforms, including Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Tencent has yet to make an official statement about the game’s future. However, the current situation suggests the project has been completely cancelled. While a redesign of the game to avoid resembling Horizon is theoretically possible, it seems unlikely. Below, you can watch the controversial game trailer.
