French automaker Renault is showcasing its new test vehicle, the “Filante Record 2025,” which is pushing the boundaries of efficiency in electric vehicle technology. In tests conducted at the UTAC test track in Morocco, the vehicle, using an 87 kWh battery – the same capacity as a standard SUV – managed to travel over 1,000 kilometers on a single charge.

Completing a total distance of 1,008 kilometers in under 10 hours, the Filante maintained an average speed of 102 kilometers per hour, simulating real highway conditions. The fact that the vehicle still had 11% energy reserve in its battery at the end of the test demonstrates how far current technology can be advanced through aerodynamic and weight optimization.

This record by the Filante sets a new standard in the world of electric vehicles with its energy consumption values. The vehicle was recorded to consume an average of 7.8 kWh of electricity per 100 kilometers. This figure represents approximately half the energy consumption of the most efficient mass-produced cars on the market today.

This extraordinary efficiency is based on the vehicle’s total weight of only 1,000 kilograms and its radical design that minimizes air resistance. Renault engineers used a carbon fiber chassis, aluminum alloys, and 3D-printed Scalmalloy components to reduce weight, while incorporating “steer-by-wire” (electronic steering) and “brake-by-wire” (electronic braking) systems that eliminate mechanical linkages.

Furthermore, narrow, low-rolling-resistance tires, specially developed for this vehicle by Michelin, directly contributed to the increased range by reducing friction by 40 percent compared to conventional tires.

Renault describes the Filante project not just as a record attempt, but as a “walking laboratory” for future mass-produced models. Achieved with the same battery pack used in the current Scenic E-Tech model, this result demonstrates that efficiency-focused engineering is a far more sustainable way to solve the range problem than using larger and heavier batteries.
