The ongoing Grok AI controversy has taken a new turn, as recent reports reveal a significant flaw in its safety measures. Despite claims from Elon Musk that the AI would stop generating non-consensual explicit content, it appears these protections do not extend to men, creating a new wave of deepfake concerns.
New Deepfake Warning in Grok AI Controversy
Recent tests conducted by a reporter have exposed Grok’s alarming willingness to digitally “undress” men. The reporter confirmed that after uploading his own photos, the AI bot seamlessly fulfilled requests to remove clothing from the images. Furthermore, this process is disturbingly accessible; it can be performed for free through the Grok app, the X platform’s interface, and even a standalone website that does not require an account.
This discovery comes shortly after the company announced it had implemented measures to prevent the editing of real people’s images into revealing attire like bikinis. However, the reporter faced no difficulty in generating images of himself in various bikinis, fetish wear, and provocative poses. In some instances, the AI even took the initiative to produce images with explicit nudity without being prompted, rarely resisting such commands.

A History of Inadequate Safeguards
Unfortunately, this is not the first time Grok has been at the center of such a scandal. A few weeks ago, it was revealed that the AI had generated millions of sexually explicit images in just 11 days. These images included non-consensual deepfakes of real people and thousands of inappropriate pieces of content involving children. The fallout from this incident led to official investigations in California and Europe, as well as temporary blocks on the X platform in countries like Indonesia and Malaysia.

Although X claims to have technological measures in place to prevent such misuse, the current safeguards appear to be remarkably weak. Reports indicate that the system’s restrictions and blocks can be easily bypassed with creative prompts. Adding to the concern is the company’s unprofessional response to journalists seeking clarification, who reportedly receive an automated reply stating, “traditional media is lying.”
