Mercedes-AMG GT SUV Debuts With 1,153 Horsepower Electric Powertrain

Mercedes-AMG has officially unveiled its latest flagship, the all-electric Mercedes-AMG GT SUV, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s shift toward high-performance electrification. Developed on the specialized AMG.EA platform, this new luxury vehicle aims to blend extreme track-ready capabilities with the practicality of an SUV. The lineup is divided into three distinct variants: the GT53, GT55, and the top-tier GT63. With these models, Mercedes-AMG intends to redefine the electric performance segment by integrating advanced axial-flux motor technology and sophisticated chassis control systems to compete with the world’s fastest production vehicles.
- The flagship GT63 variant achieves a maximum output of 1,153 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds.
- All models utilize an 800V electrical architecture supporting rapid charging speeds of up to 710 kW.
- The vehicle features a tri-motor configuration in high-end trims with the ability to decouple the front motor for improved efficiency.
Advanced Powertrain Systems Deliver Performance
The core of the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV range lies in its diverse motor configurations. The GT55 and GT63 models utilize three Yasa-designed axial-flux electric motors, while the entry-level GT53 relies on two standard electric motors. To balance raw output with energy management, AMG engineers implemented a system that disconnects the front electric motor during cruising, effectively reducing power consumption.

The performance metrics across the range are staggering. The GT53 generates 536 horsepower, reaching 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. Moving up, the GT55 produces a robust 805 horsepower, hitting the same speed in 3 seconds. The GT63, the undisputed leader of the pack, delivers 1,153 horsepower and completes the sprint to 100 km/h in a mere 2.6 seconds.

Charging Infrastructure Supports Long Ranges
Energy storage is managed by high-capacity battery packs designed for longevity and speed. The GT55 and GT63 are equipped with 128 kWh batteries, while the GT53 features a 106 kWh unit. These batteries support 800V charging, with the higher-end models capable of accepting up to 710 kW of power, ensuring minimal downtime during long journeys. The manufacturer estimates a maximum range of 700 km for the higher variants, while the base model targets a 500 km range.

Dynamic Control Systems Enhance Handling
Engineering excellence extends beyond raw power into the suspension and chassis management. The GT63 comes standard with the Active Ride Control+ suspension system and high-performance carbon-ceramic brakes. These features are optional on the GT55. Furthermore, the AMG Dynamic Plus Package allows drivers to fine-tune throttle response and traction settings via the AMG Race Engineer control unit.

The cabin design mirrors the aesthetic of the GT 4-Door Coupe, featuring a prominent three-screen digital dashboard. To maintain a visceral driving experience, AMG has included simulated motor sounds—V8-inspired for the top trims and six-cylinder-inspired for the entry model—along with virtual gear shift sensations. The vehicle is scheduled to reach global markets in the summer of 2027.

The arrival of an electric SUV with over 1,100 horsepower marks a bold new chapter for Mercedes-AMG; we would love to hear your thoughts on whether this electric powerhouse can truly replicate the emotional experience of traditional internal combustion engines.
