ChatGPT Pro Usage Limits Doubled as OpenAI Drops Pro 200 Cut

OpenAI has doubled ChatGPT Pro usage limits for its $100, $200 and $500 monthly plans and for Business Premium, and it has canceled a planned cut to the $200 tier that was due to take effect on October 29, 2026. Prices stay the same, and existing subscribers get the higher allowance automatically.
The reversal was announced on X by OpenAI’s Tibo (Thibault Sottiaux), who works on Codex and ChatGPT. OpenAI’s Help Center and the October 29 ChatGPT release notes confirm the change.
Day 25/
We are doubling all usage limits for all Pro 100/200/500 tiers and Business Premium, effective today.
We heard your kind feedback and won’t be reducing usage limits for Pro 200, so your Work and Codex usage will stay the same. We’re also going to continue offering extended limits for dots for now, and usage of your dot will still continue to be separate from your default usage.

Why OpenAI Reversed the ChatGPT Pro Usage Limits Cut
In late September, OpenAI reopened new Pro 200 subscriptions but gave them a smaller Work and Codex allowance, and it emailed existing Pro 200 subscribers that their allowance would drop to the same level after October 29. Measured at API prices, that meant roughly half the previous usage for the same $200 a month. Developers and heavy users pushed back hard on X and Reddit.
Now, according to OpenAI’s Pro tiers support page, “the reduction announced in our September 29 email is canceled.” Subscribers who still had the higher allowance keep it, and those on the lower allowance have been doubled to match. OpenAI’s Andrew Ambrosino followed up on X, saying usage limits were “back to being double” and that user feedback had worked.
What Changes on Each Plan
- Pro 100 ($100/month): twice the previous Work and Codex allowance.
- Pro 200 ($200/month): the cut is canceled; the lower allowance is doubled, so all Pro 200 accounts now share the higher level. For long-time subscribers this is a restoration rather than a true doubling.
- Pro 500 ($500/month): twice the previous Work and Codex allowance. Ultrafast models remain exclusive to this tier.
- Business Premium: included in the increase, though OpenAI’s notes give no exact multiple.
The fine print matters. ChatGPT Plus usage is unchanged, and weekly GPT-6 Pro message limits in Chat are separate from the Work and Codex allowance. OpenAI also warns that “a larger allowance does not guarantee twice as many completed tasks,” because consumption depends on the model, task and speed settings. The company still does not publish hard numbers for any tier. Usage of Dots, OpenAI’s always-on assistants, keeps its own extended allowance “for now.”
What It Means for You
If you pay for Pro mainly for Codex or long Work sessions, you should hit the cap later without upgrading, and no cancel-and-resubscribe trick is needed. The move also lands in a tight race with Anthropic’s Claude Code for developers’ subscription money, just days after OpenAI started offering Pro and Business users monthly API credits.
