A strategic partnership has been signed between OpenAI, a leading company in the field of artificial intelligence, and South Korea-based technology giant Samsung. This partnership builds directly on OpenAI’s massive infrastructure project, known as “Stargate.”
OpenAI and Samsung Collaborate
The partnership involves Samsung subsidiaries such as Samsung Electronics, Samsung SDS, Samsung C&T, and Samsung Heavy Industries. Samsung announced that it will support OpenAI’s global “Stargate” projects.
The focus of this support is to meet OpenAI’s ever-growing need for memory chips. To this end, Samsung will offer new, high-performance DRAM solutions, specifically focused on energy efficiency. The company also states that it will develop solutions specifically for OpenAI, leveraging its capabilities in chip design, chip manufacturing services, and advanced packaging technologies.
OpenAI’s infrastructure initiative, dubbed “Stargate Project,” was announced on January 21st as a US-based joint venture with SoftBank and Oracle. It was reported that this project would begin with the construction of a large data center in Texas.
Stargate, which invested $100 billion in the initial phase and aims to increase the total investment to $500 billion over the next four years, aims to build large AI infrastructures for OpenAI in the United States.
