A New Era for PlayStation 5: The Interface Is Getting a Complete Overhaul!

Ana sayfa / News

Sony is finally addressing the “complex and layered” menu structure that PlayStation 5 users have been complaining about for years. The new PlayStation 5 interface, which began testing in certain regions and with beta users as of April 2026, makes the console’s home screen experience much faster and more functional.

This new design, which is being rolled out gradually via an unofficial server-side update, aims to reduce access time to games and subscription services to under a second. The first images shared on Reddit and forums confirm that Sony is transitioning to a more user-friendly navigation structure.

New Navigation Bar: Quick Access with L1 and R1

The top tab structure, which was previously divided into just “Games” and “Media,” is being replaced by a much richer Quick Menu Bar. Users can now instantly switch between these five main categories using the L1 and R1 buttons on the DualSense:

PlayStation Store: A direct access point for purchases.PlayStation Plus: A new, dedicated section separate from the store, featuring the subscription catalog.
Games (Active): The main hub for games currently being played or recently launched.
Game Library: A streamlined section listing all installed or purchased games.
Media: The area housing YouTube, Netflix, and other streaming apps.

The End of Horizontal Scrolling

The biggest advantage of the new design is that it eliminates the need to scroll all the way through long horizontal lists to access the game library. You can now switch directly to the library tab with a single button press. Additionally, it’s reported that icons in the interface have been slightly scaled down to leave more space for background images (key art), and the system’s overall responsiveness (snappiness) has been improved.

PlayStation 5 Pro and PSSR Support

This April 2026 update, which includes not only visual but also technical improvements, offers a critical innovation, particularly for PlayStation 5 Pro users. Sony’s AI-powered image upscaling technology, PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution), has been optimized with this update to deliver sharper and clearer text within the system interface.

What Are Users Saying?

Initial feedback from users in the beta program has been overwhelmingly positive. Many players argue that this new design combines the “user-friendly” feel of the PS4 with the speed of the PS5. However, the community still has one request: fully customizable interface themes. There is speculation that Sony’s new tabbed interface could pave the way for customizable themes in the future.

Although the exact date when the update will be available to all PS5 owners hasn’t been announced, leaks suggest that all consoles worldwide will get this new look by early May. If you see new icons at the top when you turn on your console, you’re part of the lucky few!
