In February, Meta released a Telegram-like feature for Instagram called “post channels” that brought one-way messaging to the app. The Telegram feature, which emerged as an alternative and useful way for content creators to inform their followers about updates without having to share on their home pages, is now coming to Facebook and Messenger .
Facebook is also getting Telegram-like feature
The Meta company is now expanding the availability of broadcast channels and bringing it to Facebook and Messenger as well. Creators and public figures with Facebook pages can now post messages to their communities, including photos, videos, and voice notes. It is important to point out again that these will be one-way messages.
This means that only page admins can post messages in the channel, but participants can react to them and vote in polls. Admins can start a channel directly from their page, and Facebook will then send their followers a one-time notification to join after they send their first message.
According to screenshots shared by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, broadcast channels will appear in users’ Messenger chats under a tab labeled “Channels.” Participants will receive notifications whenever the page owner posts an update, but they can mute the channel at any time.
If users choose not to participate at the first notification and change their mind later, they will be able to access this channel again from the page’s profile, just like on Instagram. Meta says that any page admin where the feature is now available can start a channel if they want. However, this feature is still not available everywhere, and those who have not yet found the option to open a broadcast channel have to wait for now.
Considering that Meta has brought this Telegram-like feature to both Instagram and Facebook, it is possible to say that we may see more of the same type of features in the future. Maybe it can create a rival to Telegram, like Threads, which they released as a rival to Twitter.
