Apple offers one of the most durable models in the smartwatch world with the Watch Ultra. The watch, which attracts attention with its water resistance, battery and screen, was recently used to play games. An engineer installed Android on the Watch Ultra and ran some old games.
Played Game Boy Advance games with Apple Watch Ultra
A Reddit user has realized an engineering feat that many thought was impossible. The user, who managed to run Android on Apple Watch Ultra, aroused curiosity by playing Game Boy Advance games on the smartwatch.
As seen in the video shared on Reddit, he connected a DualSense controller to the Watch Ultra via Bluetooth support. He then installed an emulator called My Boy! to play iconic Game Boy Advance titles like Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow.
The user didn’t reveal how he installed Android on the Watch Ultra, but he did reveal that he bypassed the stock WatchOS software. This allowed him to use the My Boy! emulator for Android on the smartwatch.
Controlled via DualSense, the setup played smoothly on the Watch Ultra’s 1.92-inch display. However, with its small buttons and 320×240 screen, playing Game Boy Advance games doesn’t seem to be enjoyable enough.
Emulators like My Boy! were developed for smartphones with larger and higher resolution screens. This makes it quite difficult to play games on a smartwatch. However, it is impressive in terms of technical achievement.
