Competition in the digital art world is heating up. Adobe has taken an important step by making its Fresco application, which it developed against competitors such as iPad drawing applications Procreate and Clip Studio Paint, free for all users.
Adobe Fresco is now free for everyone
Adobe has announced that it is making its digital drawing app Fresco free for all users. The app, which previously charged a $9.99 annual subscription fee for premium features, is now available completely free of charge.
Fresco was designed as Adobe’s alternative solution to competitors like iPad drawing apps Procreate and Clip Studio Paint. But with its paid model, it struggled to compete against apps that offered all its features for free.
All Fresco tools, such as the extensive brush library, advanced symmetry features and animation presets, are now unlocked and available for free. This means that the free version, which offered only a fraction of the app’s capabilities, has been completely removed.
Making the app completely free makes Fresco accessible to amateur artists and creators who previously couldn’t use it due to Adobe’s subscription fees. Apps like Procreate had built a dedicated user base with a one-time $12.99 pricing model.
With the latest change, Adobe hopes to win over some of those users and compete directly with programs favored by many artists. While Fresco does not currently have Procreate’s user base, it does offer cross-platform availability on iPad and Windows.
