Apple has begun testing Apple Maps ads to increase revenue from its Maps app. According to a report by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, these ads will appear directly in search results.
How will Apple Maps ads work?
The new system will operate similarly to search ads on the App Store. Similar to how developers pay to feature their apps, businesses will be able to pay to appear higher on Maps.
For example, if you search for “sushi,” a paid restaurant could appear at the top of the list, marked “Advertisement.” This move is a key part of Apple’s overall goal of increasing ad revenue.
Mark Gurman states that Apple’s advertising move is part of a larger strategy. The company is aggressively pursuing ad revenue. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising to see similar steps taken after Apple Maps ads.
According to reports, ads are also planned for the Apple TV+ streaming service. Additionally, advertising integration into the Books and Podcasts apps is also being considered. This move is seen as part of Apple’s goal of diversifying its service revenue.
