Qualcomm has been working to expand the Gen 3 family for a while. The official introduction was made for Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, which has been on the agenda with leaks in recent days. It was stated that the chipset will focus on artificial intelligence features and important steps will be taken in 5G.
What will Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 offer?
Qualcomm said the chipset will have one Cortex-X4 main core running at 3.01 GHz, four Cortex-A720 performance cores running at 2.8 GHz and three Cortex-A520 productivity cores running at 1.84 GHz. It is also built on TSMC’s 4nm process.
The new details also revealed various features of the chipset. The 8s Gen 3, which will enable productive artificial intelligence within the smartphone, will allow both text and image processing. With this support, it will support languages such as Google Gemini Nano and Llama 2.
Other features of the chipset include a new Cognitive ISP for advanced image processing. This brings several features to enhance the user experience, such as photo expansion, semantic search and a 2x increase in sHDR quality. 4K HDR video support is also available.
Qualcomm said it features real-time Hardware Accelerated Ray Tracing. However, there is no Global Illumination feature. This means it lags behind the SD 8 Gen 3 in visual processing.
Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 also includes the Snapdragon X70 5G modem for faster cellular connectivity. Offering 5G and Wi-Fi 7 support, this modem features the Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 Mobile Connectivity System. The company said Wi-Fi speed will be supported to 5.8 Gbps.
With the announcement of the 8s Gen 3, the next generation of flagship phones is expected to be faster, more efficient and more powerful. The first phone to use the chipset is uncertain for now.
