Android Auto will make drives safer thanks to AI message summaries

Ana sayfa / News

AI message summaries, introduced earlier this year, are now available for widespread use with the latest updated version of Android Auto. The long-awaited feature of having Google Assistant read out lengthy message summaries has finally arrived.

Upon updating to version 11.4, when you open the application for the first time, you’ll see a notification announcing that Google message summaries are now available. You don’t have to accept this, but there will also be a shortcut that takes you to settings to manage the feature. AI message summaries work for long messages exceeding 40 words. For shorter messages, Google Assistant still reads out the content entirely.

The first time you trigger an AI message summary, Google will inform you that it has generated a summary and that the information may be slightly inaccurate. While the message is being read, you’ll see a silent notification on your phone indicating that a summary is being generated.

When read aloud, a test message exceeding 100 words is summarized to about 15 words. Many details are omitted during the process, but the overall meaning is preserved. Of course, results may vary. After the summary is read, you’ll see a notification in Android Auto asking for feedback on the summary.

Will Google and Meta merge for Android?

Google held an Android XR meeting with Meta. Google wanted to put Android XR on Quest glasses. Here are the details.

If you don’t want AI summaries, the feature can easily be disabled from Android Auto settings. The feature is still labeled as “AI Message Summaries” on the phone and in the in-car settings of Android Auto, but there’s now a new toggle for “Notifications with Assistant.”
