Apple has officially announced that its new generation of AI-powered Siri assistant will be available later than expected. The company initially planned to offer the Siri update, which it introduced at its developer conference last year and which provides deeper interaction with applications by providing more access to user data, in 2025. However, it is stated that this version has been postponed to next year at the earliest and may even be delayed until 2027.
AI-powered Siri will arrive later than expected
The new Siri, which was previously expected to be released in April with the iOS 18.4 update, was postponed because it did not perform as desired in internal tests. Senior managers from Apple’s software engineering team stated that it was not possible to introduce the new features on schedule due to stability issues.
Some employees from within the company even suggest that the current Siri plans could be completely canceled and a new structure could be created from scratch. Due to this uncertainty, Apple decided to integrate ChatGPT into iPhone and Mac devices by collaborating with OpenAI as a temporary solution. This integration aims to take Siri’s capabilities to a certain level as part of the artificial intelligence ecosystem called Apple Intelligence.
Thanks to the ChatGPT integration, Siri will gain advanced language processing, visual content creation and file analysis capabilities. However, Siri still has significant shortcomings in analyzing user data and providing deeper integration with on-device applications.
Apple’s delays in this area have brought criticism that it is lagging behind in innovation. However, the company plans to accelerate its artificial intelligence projects by collaborating with Alibaba and Baidu.
