Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a trend across various sectors, including search engines, operating systems, and now even online shopping platforms. Amazon, which was founded in the United States and later expanded its sales worldwide, has started using AI enhancements in relation to its products. The goal of this enhancement is to enhance the shopping experience for users. Here are the details about Amazon and its use of artificial intelligence:
Amazon is editing product reviews using AI!
Amazon has opted to use artificial intelligence (AI) to generate review summaries for some of its listings. The aim of this approach is to expedite the shopping experience for customers with limited time, who do not want to navigate through endless user reviews. Instead of reading individual product reviews, customers can now get an idea about a product by examining the aggregated evaluation prepared by AI.
Mark Wieczorek, the Chief Technology Officer at Fortress Brand, a marketing agency based in New York City, noticed this feature. To provide further examples, Wieczorek shared a summary including the note, “These summaries have been generated by AI using customer review texts.” Additionally, he shared an AI-generated review for an air purifier sold on Amazon.
The AI-generated evaluation for the air purifier on Amazon reads as follows:
“This air purifier has received positive feedback from customers in various aspects. Many customers appreciate its ability to clean the air and improve air quality, with some even considering it the top air purification device. Furthermore, the product effectively eliminates odors and its sleek design has garnered customer satisfaction. However, some customers have expressed mixed opinions regarding its effectiveness in reducing allergies and asthma.”
Currently, AI-generated summaries are only available on Amazon’s mobile site and for specific products. It is expected that this feature will be implemented on more products in the future. While Amazon has not made an official announcement regarding this new feature, it has been widely reported that the company is significantly investing in productive artificial intelligence across all its operations.
This investment aims to not only streamline customer reviews but also tackle the issue of fake reviews. Many sellers create fake orders under their own names and write positive reviews to boost their product ratings. However, the majority of these reviews are fake. These misleading reviews often deceive users and result in wasted purchases.
