Amazon made Dolby features paid!

Ana sayfa / News

Amazon Prime Video platform has come to attention with some negative news this time. If you don’t have the ad-free version of Amazon Prime, you will now have to pay extra for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos features. While the exact financial reason behind the company’s sudden decision is not known, users of the platform are not likely to be pleased with this situation.

If you are a regular Amazon Prime member, you will only have access to Dolby Digital 5.1 instead of Dolby Vision and Atmos options. Additionally, HDR10 support will be available for regular users. Especially Amazon’s free HDR10+, which is considered a good alternative for Dolby Vision, is mentioned.

The most criticized aspect of this change is that Amazon did not make any official announcement or send email notifications for such a significant impact on the user experience. In response to increasing criticism, Amazon spokesperson Katie Barker stated in a comment that the claims are true and that users now need to upgrade their memberships for Dolby features.

The reason behind this change is said to be the significantly increasing licensing fees of Dolby. Of course, this increase will be reflected to users, as always. The positive aspect of the situation is that users in Turkey have not been affected by this change yet.
