Amazon Makes Final Decision on Hybrid Work System

Ana sayfa / News

E-commerce giant Amazon has decided to end its hybrid work model adopted during the pandemic. CEO Andy Jassy announced that starting January 2024, all corporate employees will be required to come into the office five days a week.

Since June 2023, the company had implemented a policy allowing employees to work from the office three days a week. However, Jassy explained that they believe being physically together in the office offers significant advantages and announced a return to the old routine.

In an online message, Jassy stated, “We’ve observed that being in the office makes it easier to learn, practice, and reinforce our company culture. Collaboration, brainstorming, and innovation become simpler and more effective. The process of learning from and teaching each other progresses more smoothly, and teams connect better with one another.”

A transition period has been planned for employees to adjust to the new arrangement. They have until January 2, 2025, to make necessary changes to their current living and working conditions. After this date, all employees will be required to come to the office five days a week.

However, this decision has been met with dissatisfaction from some employees. Comments on the company’s internal messaging channels describe the decision as “quite upsetting and demotivating.” Some employees have also claimed that this policy contradicts Amazon’s goal of being “the world’s best employer.”

Other tech giants like Apple, Microsoft, Google, and Meta currently expect their employees to come into the office two or three days a week. It remains to be seen whether Amazon’s decision will prompt other companies to take similar steps.
