Microsoft has announced that it is canceling its service that allowed users to run Android apps on Windows 11. Recently, Android and Windows have been growing closer and closer. That’s why the company’s latest decision is intriguing. So why did Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) support end?
Windows Subsystem for Android has ended
When the Windows Subsystem was first released in 2022, it was one of the key innovations that set Windows 11 apart from other systems. It allowed users to install the Amazon Appstore and open Android apps on Windows 11.
However, Microsoft has decided to retire this functionality. Users who have Amazon Appstore and Android apps installed will benefit from this support until next year. However, it will not be possible to install Android apps on Windows 11 after March 5, 2025.
In its statement on the subject, Microsoft said, “We are grateful for the support of our developer community and are committed to listening to feedback as we improve experiences.” It declined to elaborate on the reasoning behind this decision.
The Windows Subsystem has received many important features over the past few years, receiving regular updates from Microsoft. It also offered support for new versions such as Android 12 and 13.
In fact, it is possible to say that Microsoft only focuses on Windows in the operating system. Last year, it announced that it would close the Windows Mixed Reality platform and withdrew from the virtual reality world.
