OpenAI addresses Privacy bug in ChatGPT: Explains cause and solution

Ana sayfa / News

ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, is currently on the agenda with a bug. ChatGPT was downed recently, showed users other people’s chat histories. A new statement came today on this issue. For those who missed it, the system became unusable for a while recently. Just then users who opened the site saw other people’s chat histories. The details of these chat histories could not be seen, but the titles were clearly revealed.

A bug caused ChatGPT users to see other users’ chat headings

This, of course, caused quite a reaction because it was a serious violation of privacy. Of course, people do not want their chats with ChatGPT to be seen by others. After all, there are people behind these systems and they use the conversations to improve the “GPT” language model on which artificial intelligence is built. However, the fact that even a small part of the conversations were seen by normal users, was not welcomed.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the developer company, made a statement in the morning and said, “We had a significant issue in ChatGPT due to a bug in an open-source library, for which a fix has now been released and we have just finished validating. A small percentage of users were able to see the titles of other users’ conversation history. We feel awful about this.”

Then another official statement came from the company on the matter. In this last-hour statement, the following was directly stated: “We took ChatGPT offline Monday to fix a bug in an open-source library that allowed some users to see titles from other users’ chat history. Our investigation has also found that 1.2% of ChatGPT Plus users might have had personal data revealed to another user. We believe the number of users whose data was actually revealed to someone else is extremely low and we have contacted those who might be impacted. We take this very seriously and are sharing details of our investigation and plan here.”
