As you know, there is a rising trend in the gaming world recently, especially after the rise of Netflix and Game Pass: Subscription services… This trend, led by console giants Microsoft and Sony with services such as Game Pass and PlayStation Plus, gives players access to hundreds of games for a monthly fee. However, this time a surprise player may appear on the scene: SEGA!
Competition with SEGA is about to heat up….
According to the latest rumours, the Japanese gaming giant is seriously considering launching a Netflix-like game subscription service. Shuji Utsumi, president of SEGA, told the BBC that subscription services are ‘very interesting’ and that the company is exploring opportunities in this area. ‘We are thinking and discussing some things that we cannot disclose right now,’ Utsumi said, raising curiosity about the project.
Although SEGA’s plans to enter this sector are exciting, this venture also raises concerns. Some experts state that players may have to pay for more than one subscription service and that such systems may create a financial burden.
SEGA’s move does not only mean competition with Microsoft and Sony. Other giants in the gaming world such as Nintendo, EA and Ubisoft have also secured their place with subscription services. SEGA’s entry into such a market can further mobilise the industry. However, it is not known for now how the company will follow this race, which games it will offer access to and what the price policy will be.
So what do you think about this? Can SEGA be successful with a new game subscription system? Don’t forget to share your comments!
