The process starts by choosing a theme such as “imaginary”, “mineral” or “floral”. The user then chooses specific words to describe the type of wallpaper they want. For example, after selecting the “floral” theme, you can customize the wallpaper by typing words like “tropical”, “colorful” or “vibrant”.
Once the theme and commands are selected, the Pixel 8 Pro uses Google’s generative AI models to create a wallpaper that matches the description. Users see multiple options generated from their commands and can set their favorite as wallpaper.
Further customization is also possible. Google allows you to provide feedback to the AI on the quality of the images created with the liking system. Over time, this will help the AI better understand user preferences.

Google also allows you to save images created with the wallpaper creation tool. The “Your AI Wallpapers” section in Android 14 stores your images and lets you edit them whenever you want. Note that this feature is completely free, but only available on Pixel 8 for now.
