Details detected in the codes of Android 15 beta versions revealed that Google will increase security measures on Android devices. Accordingly, Quarantine Mode will be introduced with Android 15 to strengthen malware protection.
Android 15 will quarantine dangerous apps
Malware has long been a threat on Android. Google claims to have addressed many issues with previous updates. The quarantine feature in Android 15 will allow users to quarantine apps identified as dangerous by the operating system.
This could help take security one step further. The new permission, codenamed “Quarantine Apps”, was found in a piece of code related to the app settings section. This means that users will be able to see and manage apps that are automatically quarantined by their device.
Google currently uses features that block certain app notifications and activities. Quarantine can therefore prevent users from interacting with malware until the app is confirmed safe.
However, it remains unclear what to look for when quarantining an app. There is also a risk that official apps could be quarantined by mistake. Therefore, users should be able to review and remove misjudged apps from quarantine.
With Android 15, Quarantine Mode promises big features, but it is still unclear whether it will be included in the final release. Google is expected to announce full details at Google I/O 2024 next month.
