Google has announced a roadmap for Android 15, similar to previous versions. The initial release will be for developers, followed by a Beta phase for end users after the release of Developer Beta 2. With the beta phase starting in April, Android 15 will become available for end users to download and test. The beta program for Android 15 is planned to conclude with the Beta 4 update in July.

The first Developer Beta 1 release, initially for Pixel devices, will be followed by Developer Beta 2 in March with an upcoming update. However, it’s important to note that operating systems in developer beta programs may not be stable.

The key features of Android 15 include:

  • Developer Productivity: Continuous updates in OpenJDK APIs, including improvements in NIO buffers, streams, security, and more.
  • Enhanced App Compatibility: Improvements to ensure smooth operation of apps across different Android versions and devices.
  • Private Compute Core in Android: Android 15 raises the extension level of Android AD Services by including the latest version of the Private Compute Core in Android.
  • File Integrity: Android 15’s FileIntegrityManager includes new APIs leveraging the power of fs-verity in the Linux kernel. This provides protection against potential malicious software or unauthorized file changes that could compromise the functionality or data of your application.
  • Privacy and Security: New APIs and enhancements for enhanced user privacy and application security.
  • Performance: Improved Android Dynamic Performance Framework for better performance optimization in applications and games.
  • Accessibility: Initially available only for Google Pixel devices, with further updates and versions planned for other devices.
