Google is taking an important step towards increasing device security with the Android 16 version. Thanks to the new security mode, USB data access will be completely disabled when the phone is locked. This feature aims to prevent malicious people from stealing data from phones via USB devices.
Android 16 brings new security feature
The new system to be introduced in Android 16 is activated when ‘Advanced Protection’ is enabled. Thus, when the phone is locked, the Android operating system prevents any connected USB device from sending or receiving data. If the phone is lost or stolen, hacking the device using the USB connection is completely prevented in this way.
If a USB device is connected to a locked Android 16 device, a warning message is displayed on the screen. In order to actively use the USB device, the phone must be unlocked manually and the device must allow USB connection again.
This process will make it significantly more difficult for third parties to intercept both personal data and sensitive information on the device. The new security mode is optional. Users will be able to activate the Advanced Protection feature when they need it.
This function is not yet available in the current beta version of Android 16. All details of this feature are expected to appear in the final version to be released.
