Google is preparing to take an important step in its fight against phone scams. New code discovered in the beta version of the Google Phone app points to a significant improvement to the fraud notification system.
Google Phone app strengthens the fight against fraud
The new version 155.0.697690833-publicbeta will allow users to share more detailed information about fraud attempts. This will enable Google to more effectively combat such malicious activity.
Once the feature, which is currently in beta, goes live, users will be able to flag a call as a scam and be presented with a multiple-choice list of questions, including what the scammer wants and who they are.
In addition to the options in this list, users will be able to describe their fraud experience in detail with the “other” option. Google will analyze the feedback to learn more about the scammers’ methods and warn users about suspicious numbers.
A new button called “Search” will also be added to the Google Contacts app, accessible from the Google Phone app. This button will provide additional information about unlisted numbers, helping to better evaluate calls from unknown numbers.
These features, which have not yet been officially announced and are in beta, are expected to be available in future updates. However, like all features under development, there is a chance that they will not be included in the final version.
