Huawei was largely banned from using 5G technologies after it was blacklisted by the USA in 2019. That’s why the company has included 4G connectivity in its flagship models for a long time. However, this started to change in the past weeks, as 5G support appeared in the company’s newest smartphones, the Mate 60 family. While the 5G-supported Kirin 9000S chipset used in smartphones attracts the attention of the USA, recent reports reveal that new sanctions will be imposed on the Chinese manufacturer.
US plans to ban 4 more chipmakers linked to Huawei
According to Bloomberg‘s report, the USA decided to blacklist four Chinese chip manufacturers, including Qingdao Sien, SwaySure, Shenzhen Pensun Technology and ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT).
While it is stated that the companies in question were linked to Huawei at one point, two more chip manufacturers, which are thought to have helped Huawei circumvent US bans, such as the Kirin 9000s processor, are expected to be added to the blacklist.
Of course, with the latest decisions of the USA, Huawei’s job will become difficult once again. This could be a serious obstacle for the Chinese manufacturer to continue releasing 5G smartphones and, most importantly, to the development of China’s processor architecture. Finally, the technical specifications of the 5G Mate 60, which was introduced last year, are as follows;
