Apple officially entered the AR glasses market by introducing Vision Pro and Vision OS at the WWDC 2023 event held recently. Shortly after that, they made their first major acquisition in the AR field by confirming the purchase of AR startup Mira.
Mira is working for Nintendo World and Universal Studios
Mira, based in Los Angeles, is known for producing AR glasses used in popular theme parks like Nintendo World and Universal Studios. The company has also previously signed contracts with the US Air Force and Navy.
Apple’s acquisition of this venture came right after announcing Vision Pro at WWDC 2023. Mira, which provides AR experiences like Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge in theme parks, will be integrated into the Apple ecosystem in the future.
Mira is also involved in developing AR solutions for military applications. While the details are unknown, various agreements have been made with the US Air Force and Navy. Mira’s involvement with the military showcases the company’s advanced AR technology.
Apple has confirmed the acquisition but has not disclosed its plans on how they will manage Mira. However, based on their previous acquisitions, it can be assumed that Apple will not interfere with the company’s internal management. Mira’s existing agreements with other firms will continue, and Apple will benefit from the company’s patents.
