Apple has postponed the release date of its next-generation HomePod with a screen. According to information reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this third-generation HomePod model has been moved to 2026. The device was originally scheduled to be unveiled in the first half of 2025, but delays in Apple’s AI infrastructure have changed this schedule.
HomePod with a screen arrives later than expected
The primary reason for the delay is technical issues with Apple’s new Siri system. The company is restructuring Siri under the name Apple Intelligence. This new AI-based system aims to offer deeper integration with apps and adapt to users’ personal habits.
However, issues with both the Apple Intelligence platform and the app control infrastructure, known as App Intents, directly impacted the HomePod’s development process.
The next-generation HomePod is poised to play a central role in Apple’s smart home strategy. The device, expected to feature a 6- to 7-inch display, is reportedly powered by the A18 chip and designed with a modular structure.
The device will be designed for both desktop and wall mounting. This design demonstrates Apple’s intention to position the HomePod not only as a speaker but also as a versatile communication and control center for the home.
The original HomePod model, introduced in 2018, was followed by the HomePod Mini and the second-generation HomePod devices. However, the new model, unlike those in this series, focuses on video communication features and advanced artificial intelligence capabilities.
Apple has not yet officially announced the HomePod with a display. However, the delay highlights the extent to which Apple has reshuffled its hardware schedule due to software challenges.
