Apple has taken an aggressive step to discourage its employees from unionizing. The company informed its staff about the “risks of unionization” during meetings held at around 270 of its stores in the United States.
Apple declares its opposition to unionization!
It has been known for some time that Apple does not want its employees to unionize, and this situation has reached a serious level, especially during the coronavirus pandemic. After everything appeared to have returned to normal following the end of the lockdowns, the company took an interesting step.
According to a report first published in Bloomberg, the company held meetings in all of its stores to discuss the risks of unionization. During these meetings, managers made statements about the union election held at the Towson store in Maryland and the slow progress of employees towards collective bargaining.
The Apple management emphasized the disadvantages of unionization by criticizing union dues and the process of unionization. Some employees said they saw these meetings as a “scare tactic” because they understood what Apple really wanted.
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, which represents workers at the Towson Town Center location in Maryland, said it would issue a statement today. However, overall, the message Apple sent to its tens of thousands of employees was that your store could be disadvantaged if it becomes unionized.
In fact, in May of last year, Apple Store employees claimed that the company subjected them to anti-union captive-audience meetings. They also stated that they saw these meetings as an attempt to “throw cold water” on the idea of unionization.
