Apple has introduced the new Mac Studio model with M4 Max and M3 Ultra chip options. Despite its compact design, this new model offers high performance and features designed for professional users. The new Mac Studio offers Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, support for up to 512 GB of unified memory and up to 16 TB of SSD storage.
New Mac Studio specs
Coming in M4 Max and M3 Ultra chip options, Mac Studio takes desktop performance to a new level. The M4 Max chip is powered by a 16-core CPU and 40-core GPU. It runs up to 3.5 times faster than Mac Studio with the M1 Max chip and up to 6.1 times faster than the Intel-based 27-inch iMac.
Neural Engine support accelerates AI processing, while advanced graphics architecture boosts content production and gaming performance. Mac Studio with M4 Max chip comes with at least 36 GB of combined memory and can be upgraded up to 128 GB. It also has powerful media engine support for working on multiple 4K ProRes video streams.
Mac Studio with the M3 Ultra chip is optimized for the highest performance requirements. Equipped with a 32-core CPU and 80-core GPU, this model has 50 percent more processing power compared to previous Ultra chips. It can run large language models (LLMs) directly in memory, which is a huge advantage for AI operations.
Configurations start with 96 GB of combined memory and go up to 512 GB. With over 800 GBps of memory bandwidth, working with large data sets becomes more efficient. It offers 2.6 times faster performance in graphics-based workflows compared to Mac Studio with the M1 Ultra chip.
The new Mac Studio also targets professional users with its connectivity options. Thunderbolt 5 technology offers three times faster data transfer speeds than the previous generation. With up to 120 Gbps data transfer capacity, it provides a powerful solution for external storage and expansion enclosures.
Support for up to eight Pro Display XDR displays enables large display configurations. It is also equipped with additional ports including 10Gb Ethernet connectivity, HDMI, SDXC card slot, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 support.
Apple Intelligence integration makes the new Mac Studio more powerful for productivity and AI-driven workflows. Writing Tools speeds up text editing and summarization, while the new Siri improves the user experience with enhanced macOS integration. Private Cloud Compute technology enables large AI models to run securely.
Mac Studio is compatible with macOS Sequoia, and iPhone Mirroring lets you control apps on iPhone directly from Mac. Features like easier window organization and a new Passwords app enhance the user experience. Game performance improvements mean next-generation games like Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition and Assassin’s Creed Shadows run smoother.
