Starting in April, Apple plans to launch a new program that will allow iPhones to be updated in stores before they go on sale. The program will start in US stores and then expand globally.
iPhones will be updated out of the box with MagSafe technology
According to Mark Gurman, known for his Apple news, Apple has developed a special system. This system allows for in-store software updates before the iPhone is unboxed. “The system uses MagSafe and other wireless technologies to power up the iPhone before it’s unpacked, downloading and installing new software and then shutting the device down,” Gurman said.
This could reduce the amount of time users typically spend updating new devices before transferring iCloud data. Apple’s in-store setup services could also significantly reduce the time customers spend in-store and make the process of transferring old data to the new iPhone more efficient.
For example, with the release of the iPhone 15, users were required to update to iOS 17.0.2 before setting up their new iPhone. If this update was neglected, users would not be able to fully set up their new iPhone and would have to start over. Many users reported that setting up their latest device was more problematic than they expected.
So, for those considering buying an iPhone in the near future, it’s likely to see that the installation process will be simpler and that devices will be able to be offered with updates. This could greatly improve the setup process for the upcoming iPhone 16 models.
