Apple has announced plans for a major update that will give iPhone and iPad users in the European Union (EU) more control over their devices. This new feature will allow users to choose default apps for basic functions in the new era. Here are the details…

Coming later this year, a ‘Default Apps’ section will be available in the Settings menu, giving users the freedom to choose their preferred apps for core functions like phone calls, messaging, keyboard and password manager.

Apple’s move is seen as part of its efforts to align with EU regulations aimed at promoting competition and giving consumers more choice. The changes will be rolled out in phases, initially focusing on communications and security practices.

iPhone 16 and Apple Watch X are now ready to be introduced!

Apple has completed preparations for the iPhone 16 and Apple Watch X models, which it will introduce at an event on September 12.

Next spring, users will also be able to set default apps for navigation, translation, and call spam filtering, along with the ability to delete some pre-installed apps like the App Store, Messages, Camera, Photos, and Safari.

Apple is also making improvements to the browser selection process on iPhones in the EU. When you open Safari for the first time, a selection screen will appear that allows you to install alternative browsers. After the update, you will be prompted to review a list of all available browsers, and each browser’s App Store description will be displayed on the selection screen.
